Renowned as a sanctuary for nature enthusiasts, Raja Ampat boasts remarkable biodiversity both on land and beneath its azure waters. Beneath the surface, you'll find a thriving marine ecosystem with the planet's highest diversity of marine life. Explore Raja Ampat's enchanting coral gardens, graceful Manta Rays, and intriguing Wobbegong sharks, maybe even spot the elusive pygmy seahorses.
Halmahera, an island located in the North Maluku province of Indonesia, offers diverse diving opportunities for enthusiasts. Departing from Ternate and returning to Sorong, you can embark on a remarkable diving journey encompassing various diving sites across Halmahera and nearby regions.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1:
After being welcomed by the team at the airport, guests will travel to the harbor and embark on the diving dhoni boat. The diving dhoni will sail north to Waisai/Mioskon. This six-hour cruise takes you past many spectacular islands, including the Batantas and Kri, as you leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Be welcomed aboard Scubaspa ZEN to rest and recover from the overnight flight. Crew introductions and boat briefings will be conducted by the Cruise Managers, followed by a welcome dinner at the restaurant.
Day 2 - 10:
3 - 4 dives per day, including night dive where possible.
Possible Dive Site and Activities:
- Diving around Sorong with vibrant coral reefs and diverse marine life before beginning the journey into Raja Ampat.
- Morning and afternoon dives at Mioskon Reef, Blue Magic, and Friwinbonda wall. Night dive at Tapokren. Dinner onboard while cruising towards Gam Island.
- Diving at Mayhem, Citrus Ridge, and Aljui village jetty. Evening dive with critter hunting. Overnight sailing north towards Wayag.
- Diving at Two Hump Rock. Swimming, sunbathing, snorkeling, underwater photography, dinghy exploration, shore hiking, beachcombing, and an inland lake hike with chances to observe birds of paradise, hornbills, and cockatoos. Exploration continues towards Kofiau and Walo.
- Diving and snorkeling at Warna Berwarna, Andiamo, and The Candy Store in Daram.
- Diving at Fiabacet reefs with flourishing macro life. Night dive at Romeo dive.
- Diving at Gorgonian Passage, Kaleidoscope Ridge, Toblerone, and Cathedral. Evening dive at Rangers Jetty. Vessel sails south towards Kawe Island.
- Diving at My Reef, Melissa’s Garden, and Rufus Island. Evening dive at Galaxy. Short crossing after dinner towards Mansuar Island.
- Diving at the Farondi sites. Snorkeling at Jellyfish Lake, hiking to a viewpoint for the heart-shaped lake, visiting Tomolol Cave, and viewing ancient cave paintings. Farewell cocktails and dinner onboard while sailing back to Sorong.
- Exploring World War II wrecks around Morotai Island, including sunken Japanese and American warships, aircraft, and relics from the war era.
- Concluding the expedition in Ternate, with options for nearby diving in Halmahera and opportunities for cultural exploration on the island. Final day of diving with 1-2 scheduled dives, then sailing back to the harbor.
Day 11:
- Enjoy your final breakfast in the restaurant. After a farewell from your crew, we will escort you to the airport in advance of your departing flight.
Marine Life: At least 75 percent of all coral species can be found in Raja Ampat. Divers can expect a range of topography from soft corals and sea fans to hard corals, seagrass beds, mangroves, shallow reefs, deep drop-offs, caves, black sand, and white sand. Giant manta rays, sea turtles, sharks, cuttlefish, pipefish, various seahorse species, and massive schools of reef fish are the norm, plus the delightful wobbegong sharks and epaulette sharks inhabit these waters too.
The last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip. Divers are recommended to wait for 24 hours before flying after the last dive.
