No place on the planet gives you the chance to see more shy critters such as the mimic octopus, flamboyant cuttlefish, harlequin shrimps, skeleton shrimps, and innumerable nudibranchs. The fish also include the usual tropical reef suspects, but also the more bizarre: Ambon scorpionfish, snake eels, stonefish, sea robins, stargazers, devil fish, and even the weedy scorpionfish. There are also beautiful seahorses, including pygmies, pegasus, mandarin fish, ghost pipefish, and the endemic Banggai cardinalfish.
Days 5 & 6: Bangka and Bunaken
3 or 4 daily dives at some of Bangka's and Bunaken's excellent dive sites, such as Batu Gosok, Batu Mandi, Batu Pendeta, Peter Sponge (Dugongs), and Sahuang. Bunaken Timur (Reported Orcas encountered), Lekuan I, II & III offer a wide range of different topographies and world-beating biodiversity.
Day 7: Tifore
3 dives on a huge seamount. Schools of fish and barracudas. On the southern side of Tifore is a reef at Pantai Sago, known for a school of barracudas found there from time to time and said to number over 1000. Diving the southeast face of the reef, where the current hits the reef, is a great dive, with superb hard & soft corals down deeper and huge shoals of schooling fish.
Days 8 & 9: Goraici
The small archipelago of Goraici offers beautiful coral reefs full of life, which surround the islands. One of the best spots is on a coral-covered wall where large pelagic can be seen crossing outside, and beautiful coral gardens, with black-tip sharks all around. Goraici also offers good macro and beautiful night spots. The fantastic white beaches are among the most beautiful in the region.
