Undoubtedly, one of the cruises is the best known and most renowned in Egypt. Lovers of wreck diving will be thrilled on this tour, which will take us to the area close to the mouth of the Suez Canal between the islands and Gubal Shadwan. The route continues to the tip of the Sinai in Ras Mohamed. Reputed to be one of the best diving sites in the world, with its sheer walls and steep drop-offs up to 800 meters! And huge schools of fish.
Dive Area Highlights:
Sha'ab El Erg
Is a beautiful reef in the shape of a horseshoe that regularly schools of dolphins (Tursiops truncatus). We will do our first dive from the back "in fins." (weight ...) So we can watch the dolphins either diving or by PMT. They are very often outside the reef or the lagoon
Ras Mohamed
This famous national park is located at the southernmost point of the Sinai, and is the meeting point of the Suez and the Aqaba gulfs. The water gathering of both gulfs can sometimes form strong current areas, the reason why many caranxes often gather near its abyssal blue fallings.
This drift diving will begin by the extreme southern point called “Shark Reef” and “Yolanda Reef”. Both are considered the most extraordinary in the park. We will immerse by the “Shark Reef” and its falling side that descends to 800 m deep. We will go along this side and ascend toward the “Yolanda Reef”. We can observe numerous coral formations, all covered by alcyonarians and gorgonians. We will pass by this magnificent area inhabited by huge Morays, Napoleons, turtles, groupers, and enormous schools of batfish to end our dive by the Cyprus shipwreck, which sank in 1980
Thistlegorm
This English freighter sank on October 6, 1941, bombed by German aircraft while carrying a cargo of munitions and war material for the English to North Africa (Trucks, cars, motorcycles, ...). You can see that all these remains are still present in the wreck. This is one of the most famous wrecks in the world
The Northern Plateau of Small Brother
We will dive at around 35/40 m. deep on top of the northern plateau. This is the spot where you will probably get the chance to see Gray Sharks and Hammer Sharks. Mantas could also be on the rendezvous or Moony fish schools (Mola Mola). We will then leave the plateau and the deep zone to go (depending on the current direction) toward the western side filled up with different forms of lives multicolored alcyonarians, magnificent gorgonians, extremely varied fauna : Morays, Barracudas… On this islet, you can get the chance to see an unbelievable number of sharks’ species: Grey reef, silver tip, silky, hammer, thresher and of course near the surface, the one waited for the Oceanic whitetip shark.
Aida II Wreck (Big Brother)
A 1426-ton wreck sank in 1957 north/west of Big Brother. The zodiac will bring you to the wreck's spot in the current direction. You will descend to reach 30 m. deep, and there lies the Aida. You will discover first a whole from which hang ropes covered with multicolored coral formations. If you look inside, you could see clouds of glassfish. You will continue discovering to reach the rear of the boat lying at -40 m deep. The area is filled with multicolored coral,s transforming the back of the ship into a real garden.
The Numidia (Big Brother)
The 130 m. long, Numidia weighs 6400 tons and has been at the northern point of Big Brother Island since July 1901. The ship was in its’ first trip from Glasgow to India with railway equipment as cargo. Today it lies on its’ side between 10 and 80 m. deep. As soon as we get underwater, we descend towards the ship to discover the wreck covered with corals and filled with different life forms. In the wedge on the early morning don’t forget to look into the “blue” you’ll see some grey or hammer sharks, it’s their domain! We will then drift dive to discover one side of the reef or the other.
Sample Itinerary:
Day 1
- Check-in day. Guests are able to check in from 5 pm up until 3 am the following morning to get to the boat in time. Services start on day 1 after check-in, and the evening dinner is included on board. The boat leaves between 9 and 10 am on day 2.
Day 2
- Departure for St. Johns after breakfast.
Days 3 - 6
- Up to 3 dives a day exploring the stunning reefs.
Day 7
- Dives are planned, but it depends on the flight schedule of the guests. The boat will be back in the afternoon. The last night will be spent at the marina, and dinner will be served aboard.
Day 8
- Breakfast included and check out between 8 and 9 am. Guests can go straight to the airport to catch their flight. Transfers are organised by the boat.
Marine Life: oceanic whitetip, hammerhead, and thresher sharks, along with manta rays, dolphins, and large schools of tuna, jacks, barracuda, turtles, moray eels, and vibrant corals.
The last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip. Divers are recommended to wait for 24 hours before flying after the last dive.
