The SOUTH MALDIVES route covers 5 atolls south of Male: KAAFU ATOLL (NORTH MALE + SOUTH MALE), VAAVU ATOLL, MEEMU ATOLL, THAA ATOLL, LAAMU ATOLL. It is the beginning/ending section of the southern Maldives trip when descending/ascending.
The SOUTH MALDIVES is one of the 3 routes of the southern Maldives trip, which is the advanced diving trip of our Maldives liveaboard trips. Starting from Male', our southern Maldives trip takes you all the way south down to the last atoll of the Maldives in the southern hemisphere. Usually, from January to March, when the right water and weather condition prevail, we are given the opportunity to dive into this amazing far south area of Maldives. During this period of the year, in the south, water pours into the atolls from the out seas, bringing spectacular things, especially the big ones into the channels in the atolls. Manta rays, whale sharks, tiger sharks, and many other species of sharks, It is a feast of marine giants to your eyes which you’ll never forget.
However, it is because of such challenging water conditions, divers are demanded to have the high diving experience to participate in the southern Maldives trip, regardless of which route is taken.
Day 1:
Embark and check-in. The ship will anchor in Koodoo. Embarkation starts at 14:00. You will be taken to the yacht from the airport by speed boat/dhoni. After boarding, there’s the check-in and room assignment, followed by the ship and trip briefing. There will be no diving on the first day.
Day 2 - Day 7:
Day 2, depart early in the morning from Male and start diving. 3 dives a day, altogether 18 dives in 6 days, including 1 or 2-night dives (according to the weather and water condition). Shall the weather and water conditions allow, we’ll pay a visit to an island during the trip and have dinner on the beach.
On day 7, dive in the morning and get back to Gan in the afternoon.
Day 8:
Check out and disembark. Check-out starts at 9:00 am. Guests must leave the ship before 10:00 am.
The last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip. Divers are recommended to wait for 24 hours before flying after the last dive.
