Halmahera is the largest of the Moluccas islands, located in Indonesia’s North Maluku Province. Due to its isolated position, diving in Halmahera is infrequent, and many dive sites have yet to be identified, let alone explored. This, paired with Halmahera’s isolation, results in dive sites that are in pristine shape and a joy to visit.
UNTOUCHED SEASCAPE
Scuba diving in Halmahera will take you to a rarely visited, unspoilt paradise. Scuba diving in Halmahera includes a variety of dive sites, including muck, drift, wall, coral gardens, and stunning volcanic structures. While diving in these formations, you will see swim-throughs, cavern zones, overhangs, ledges, and fractures, each of which attracts a different species.
ASTOUNDING BIODIVERSITY
There are quite the variety of things to see here, from huge pelagic species such as hammerhead sharks, oceanic whitetip and blacktip reef sharks, and even manta rays, all the way down to teeny macro species such as nudibranchs, pygmy seahorses and harlequin shrimp.
The best time to go scuba diving in Halmahera is between the months of March and November, when it’s the dry season. Water temperatures are very pleasant, at 84°Fahrenheit (29°C) almost all year round, with barely a degree of fluctuation between seasons.
