Whalesharks, Waterfalls and Dragons
An 8-day voyage departs from mystical Flores to Bali, highlighting the wonders of Nusa Tenggara Islands of Sumbawa, Moyo, Sangeang, Banta, and the stunning Komodo National Park home of the legendary Komodo dragons. Our Bali to Komodo itinerary is an idyllic combination of breathtaking landscapes, and otherworldly underwater life - relaxation and play.
Day 1: Bali to Kanawa Island
- After breakfast, you will be met by Mutiara Laut Voyage’s crew and transferred to the harbor, at approx. 20-minute drive. Enjoy a welcome drink and time to meet the crew before departing for Sumbawa. Alfresco lunch and dinner will be served on the deck.
Day 2: Kanawa & Kramat Island
- Today wake to the view of the north coast of Sumbawa and the island of Kanawa, where we will have a chance to explore the Island and take our first swim in pristine waters.
- Afterward, we continue our journey eastward to Kramat Island, where the rest of the day is devoted to water activities and relaxing on the deserted beach.
Day 3: Saleh Bay & Moyo
- After an overnight sail, we wake up in Saleh Bay, where whale sharks are often spotted. We will have an up-close encounter with the gentle giants when we dive near fisherman’s platforms. It is a lifetime experience for children and those young at heart!
- Later on, we sail north toward Moyo island, where we spend the rest of the day exploring the island in search of hidden jungle waterfalls. As you come back to the boat, the crew will hoist the anchor for an overnight cruise to Sangeang.
Day 4: Sangeang
- Today we awake to the view of the towering Sangeang volcano, located off the coast of Sumbawa. Today we explore the island where we will view local shipwrights’ handcraft traditional boats with simple tools and traditional techniques passed down through generations.
- This afternoon you have the choice of hiking a rugged volcano or exploring one of the nearby reefs. Hot Rock Reef, suitable for both snorkeling/diving, emits hot gas bubbles up through fissures - a unique underwater experience. We return to the boat to enjoy dinner and sail to Komodo National Park.
Day 5: Gili Banta
- Today we devote the date to exploring and relaxing at Gili Banta. Our crew will set our signature beach camp on a white and pink sand deserted beach where you will enjoy idyllic beach time and water activities. It is the perfect place to try water skiing or snorkeling in the nearby reef.
- The day concludes with a beach dinner of grilled fish and other delicacies accompanied by a magnificent sunset.
Day 6: Gili Lawa Darat & Gili Lawa Laut
- Welcome to the world-famous Komodo National Park! Today we explore the northern side of the park near the islands of Gili Lawa Darat and Gili Lawa Laut. Home to some of the best dive sites in Indonesia, you will encounter trevally groupers, sweetlips, barracudas, and white-tip reef sharks.
- Before sunset, we hike to a ridge to enjoy a spectacular panorama from where we can admire the entire bay and its turquoise waters.
Day 7: Manta Point
- This morning we head out to Makassar Reef, better known as Manta Point, where you have an opportunity to swim with the graceful Manta rays. Makassar Reef is a long shallow reef located between the island of Komodo and Tatawa Besar, where the current carries plankton-rich water, the perfect feast for the Mantas. After lunch, we sail to Rinca Island, where we will spend a few hours trekking the Island in search of the legendary Komodo dragons. A local ranger will explain its unique role in the ecosystem and how it came to reside in this part of the world.
- As dusk sets, we will cruise to Pulau Kalong, where thousands of bats live in the mangrove during the day As the sun goes down, you will hear the entire island coming to life before they all take the skies heading to Flores Island in search of fruits. A true nature spectacle!
Day 8: Disembark in Labuan Bajo Port
- After a final decadent breakfast on the deck, our crew will assist you in disembarking Mutiara Laut and transfer you back to the airport to catch your flight home.

Marine Life: Bumphead parrot fish, bamboo sharks, marble rays, nudibranchs, dusky sharks, jawfish, bubble coral shrimps, leaf fish, porcelain crabs, pygmy seahorses, schools of barracudas, trevally, and mackerel, white tips, black tips, grey reef sharks, turtles, octopus, frogfish, manta rays, dugong, banded pipefishes, mandarin fishes, Wonderpus, Indian Walkman.
The last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip. Divers are recommended to wait for 24 hours before flying after the last dive.
