The Deep South Transition Trip between Gan & Male' on a Liveaboard is one of the best ways to actually experience the best diving in the Maldives. Highly recommended for deep-sea enthusiasts and experienced divers, this route covers the best dive spots across 10 atolls.
Sample Itinerary
Day 1: Embarkation
- Maldives Legend Airport staff will welcome the guests at Velana International Airport on arrival and escort them to the boat for boarding. Refreshments will be served as the guests check in, followed by a general boat briefing. The rest of the day will be for relaxation and preparation for their check dive tomorrow.
- 14:00 - Check in & Boat Briefing followed by Lunch.
- 16:00 - Check Dive at Hulhumale’ Neru, located in North Male’ Atoll.
- 19:30 - Dinner & Cruise to Meemu Atoll.
Dive Highlights
- Hulhumale Neru: Visitors can see almost all types of moray eels, as well as giant leopard rays, stingrays, and black-spotted rays. With a bit of luck, they might also encounter tiger sharks, hammerheads, and bull sharks.
Day 2:
- 07:30 - Dive 2 at Kureli Manta Point.
- 08:30 - Breakfast - Cruise to Thaa Atoll.
- 12:00 - Lunch.
- 13:00 - Dive 3 at Fushifaru Kandu, Thaa Atoll.
- 16:00 - Dive 4 at Dhiya Migili Kandu.
- 19:30 - Dinner.
Dive Highlights
- Kureli Manta Point: Popular Manta Cleaning Station Dhiya Migili Kandu: Site with the highest chance of spotting schooling hammerhead sharks.
Day 3:
- 08:30 - Dive 5 Villingili Kandu.
- 09:30 - Breakfast.
- 11:30 - Dive 6 Kooddoo Kandu.
- 12:00 - Lunch.
- 18:30 - Dive 7 Boodu Whale Shark Point.
- 19:30 - Dinner.
Dive Highlights
- Kooddoo Kandu: Famous dive site where you can see a frenzy of spinner sharks. Both the channel dives give you a shiver of sharks, barracudas, and beautiful marine life.
- Boodu Whale Shark: Popular Dive Site to search and experience the Whale Shark Night Dive.
Day 4:
- 06:30 - Dive 8 Mareha Kandu
- 08:30 - Breakfast
- 10:30 - Dive 9 Kondey Kandu
- 14:30 - Dive 10 Kuredhoo Kandu
- 19:30 - BBQ Dinner
Dive Highlights:
- Mareha Kandu: Declared a marine protected area, with the right currents, you can enjoy a dive with over 100 grey reef sharks here, as well as schooling silver tip sharks.
- Kuredhoo Kandu: School of grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and many other pelagics.
Day 5:
- 07:00 - Dive 11 Nilandhoo Kandu.
- 08:30 - Breakfast.
- 10:30 - Dive 12 Gemanafushi Kandu.
- 12:00 - Lunch.
- 14:30 - Dive 13 Gemanafushi Canyon.
- 19:30 - Dinner.
Dive Highlights
- Gemanafushi Canyon: This is locally acclaimed as one of the favorite dive sites in the atoll for the most recognisable shark species, Hammerheads.
- Gemanafushi Coral Garden: Possibility to see dozens of grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and a huge array of fish swarming around the channel.
Day 6:
- 07:30 - Dive 14 at Fuvahmulah South Corner.
- 08:30 - Breakfast.
- 10:00 - Dive 15 at Tiger Zoo.
- 12:00 - Lunch.
- 14:30 - Dive 16 at North End for Mantas.
- 19:30 - Dinner.
Dive Highlights
- North End: Thresher Sharks, Oceanic Mantas, and Whale Sharks could be observed. Diving in this corner of the island will bring opportunities to have rare encounters.
- Tiger Zoo: One of the most famous dives in this route, can sight massive 5 to 10 individual tiger sharks. and many other big fishes.
Day 7:
- The last day of your diving will be spent on Addu, the southernmost atoll of the Maldives. After the last dive, guests will be taken on a City Tour in the late afternoon.
- 07 00 - Dive 17 at Maakandu Manta Point or British Royalty Wreck.
- 8:30 - Breakfast.
- 12:00 - Lunch.
- 14:00 - Addu City Tour.
- 19:30 - Dinner.
Dive Highlights
- Maakandu Manta Point: A cleaning station in Maa Kandu, Manta Point offers an incoming current in the morning, making it a reliable spot to see reef mantas for a couple of hours a day.
Day 8: Disembark at Male Port
- 07:30 - Breakfast.
- 10:00 - Check out from the boat.
- 10:30 - Drop off to the airport.
- The dedicated staff will assist guests in cleaning and washing their dive equipment and help with packing if needed. The team ensures that every guest is well taken care of until their departure from Maldives.
Marine Life: Tiger sharks, thresher sharks, oceanic manta rays, reef sharks, barracudas, and schools of pelagic fish, along with vibrant coral gardens teeming with tropical reef species.
The last dive will be on the penultimate day of the trip. Divers are recommended to wait for 24 hours before flying after the last dive.
